The main fear for many people is that by being hypnotised you are giving up control. This is not true. Hypnotherapy involves self-hypnosis which means, as the client, you have complete control and you will be aware of everything during the session.
We enter trance like states everyday. Cognitive Hypnotherapy uses the client's natural trance states to assist in uncovering the thoughts and memory patterns that led to the problem, and which continue to maintain it. Cognitive Hypnotherapy employs techniques to modify these patterns so the client is able to take control of their behaviour. It is an interactive therapy where the therapist acts as a guide.
The principle is that the client can find their own solution with skilled assistance. The hypnotic state makes such solutions acceptable to the unconscious, so the change in the client is ongoing and permanent. It does not involve the therapist as a 'controlling' agent. It is an effective approach because the therapist works within the client's model of the world and does not make assumptions of what is 'best' for the client.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is not sleep or unconsciousness. It is not mystical or magical in any way nor is it a miracle cure for all of life's problems. However, it is a very effective and fast working solution to a wide range of disorders, behaviours and habits.
